On July 19th, 2024, The Geopolitical Cartographer had the privilege of hosting the Hon. Scott Morrison (ScoMo), 30th Prime Minister of Australia, for an insightful talk on 'Australia and the Indian Ocean' at the Grand Crystal Ballroom of the Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo.![]()

The evening featured a dynamic discussion and Q&A session led by our Co-Patron, Mohamed Nasheed (Anni), former President of the Maldives. ![]()

The event was attended by senior government officials, including the Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva, and the Foreign Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Sri Lanka, Ms. Aruni Wijewardane. Foreign envoys from various countries, including Chargé d'Affaires of Australian High Commission, Sri Lanka, Ms. Lalita Kapur, H.E. Semih Lütfü Turgut from T.C. Kolombo Büyükelçiliği / Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Colombo, H.E. Miyon Lee from Korean Embassy in Sri Lanka, Mr. Katsuki Kotaro from Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka, Mr. Douglas Sonnek from the U.S. Embassy Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Mr. Lars Bredal from the European Union in Sri Lanka and the Maldives graced the occasion. Representatives from the South African High Commission Sri Lanka, New Zealand High Commission, Sri Lanka, Embassy of Italy in Colombo - Sri Lanka, India in Sri Lanka (High Commission of India, Colombo), High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka and Maldives, and Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka were also present, alongside members of civil society, think tanks, and business leaders, including those from the Sri Lanka - Australia - New Zealand Business Council.![]()
